blood red, cherry red, tomato red, burgundy red, brick red, ox red …… the associations of the colour red range from love and fertility, warmth and happiness, to power, violence, danger and anything what is forbidden. in short, red is a colour with many different meanings and emotions. in other words: who is afraid of red?

ever nibbled at a colour and texture forecast? from january 20-28, 2012, you can enjoy a one of a kind food=fashion dinnerspecial at de culinaire werkplaats. for the sixth consecutive time de culinaire werkplaats is one of the paricipating locations of the downtown programme of amsterdam fashion week. This time we proudly present the naturalists.

especially for amsterdam fashion week januari 2012 we have captured the sign of the times in a colour and texture forecast for fashion fabrics and food for 2013 and beyond. the result the naturalists. a food=fashion expedition through 5 mouth-watering trends : neo romanticism, nesting, down-to-earth, new landscapes and ethnic chic. nature revisited in a food= fashion statement and a must for culinary adventurers and fashionistas.

jan 02, 2012: hip & hot magazine

we launched the new year with various photoshoots. for example hip & hot magazine invited us for the foodstyling (recipes+ styling) and photografy of 3  valentine dishes. off course a menu in which red is leading. the dishes:

  • love = comfortable but slightly different: bitterbal with a filling of red cabbage stew on a salate of marinated red cabbage with a few mushrooms.
  • love = sharing everything: long pasta ribbons  with a ‘pesto’ of red beets, walnuts and dill.
  • love = warmth: chocolate bonbons with a filling of marinated pears and a sirup of red port.

dec 2011: images of eat’inspiratie surprise, surprise

fancy surprises and presents? ever tasted pieces of new year’s resolutions or had a portion of dreaming of a white xmas. in our december 2011 eat’inspiration surprise, surprise! you had your chance, as we presented 5 dutch festive december classics, but with a huge twist.

on the menu:

  • coupe new year’s resolutions: a savourish ‘oliebol’, foamy champagne and marinated pears;
  • dreaming of a white xmas?: 3 stews of root parsley, jerusalem artichoke and brussels sprouts; some mushrooms and crisps of jerusalem artichoke;
  • pièce de résistance: dried tomatoes-almond pie accompanied by green peas and black potato;
  • presents:  wonton dough with a filling of fiques and 5 december spices, on sweetened black venere rice and a coulie of tangerine;
  • punch revisited: frozen fruits marinated in white wine and mint on foamy red port.

at a very cold october evening in roest amsterdam marjolein & eric have presented one of their ideas at pechakucha night amsterdam #19 bound by the world famous rule: 20 slides of 20 seconds each for 6 min and 40 secs of fame.

marjolein & eric presented: the last farewell of today’s dinnerplate: meet the blacks.

  • they start with a poem, a longlist of a great number of black vegetal ingredients to illustrate that the dinnerplate of the future doesn’t have to be anything but empty. and they wanted to share the idea that by eating dark/black veggies and fruits you all can contribute to a colourful future.

26 sept 2011: opening nationale kookstudioweek

the theme of de nationale kookstudioweek 2011 is vegetables and fruits.

de culinaire werkplaats welcomes the choice of this theme. during this event you can take workshop minis in which vegetables and fruits are leading at a great number of cooking schools.

although the nationale kookstudioweek starts at september 24, the opening will be on monday 26 september at de culinaire werkplaats.  this ceremony is for invitees only.

'n plas water met regen

after our summerbreak and fully inspired by a rainy july we kick off in august with one of our most favorite themes: water. we translated this theme to 5 lovely waterdishes that take you on a adventurous journey through water and food.  so you’ll have the opportunity to bite in a piece of dune water. you can learn all about the hidden but tasty talents of buoys or enjoy spoons full of a blooming pont. furthermore you’ll find two of our legendary water classics on the menu, but with a fresh twist: waterworks and swan lake. we completed the eat’inspiration with the matching cocktail wishing well and the aperitif cleopatra’s tears. meer…
