a message concerning the restaurant activities of studio de culinaire werkplaats

dear all,

this august -during our summer break- I was working with my partner Eric on various ideas and events to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our design studio de culinaire werkplaats. A milestone we are very proud of.

I was in particular very much looking forward to celebrating this milestone and sharing with you all the next steps we wanted to make. 

however, during this period I was diagnosed with an incurable disease.  

consequently, Eric and I had to make some very difficult decisions. one of them is that we close the restaurant and catering activities of our design studio.
as in the coming period we would like to have more time for our personal lives and above all we want to document a decade of de culinaire werkplaats.

for now, I would like to thank you all for 10 years of incredibly interesting encounters.

the eat’inspiration rising sun is a tribute to the much-discussed and eventful life and works of Vincent van Gogh, a true avant-garde artist in search of the art of the future.

an artist that consists of a very special mix of enthusiasm, unruliness, talents, honest concern for the working man and with a fascination for nature and japanese art.

an artist who is so much more than its artifacts: potatoes, sunflowers, a piece of ear and absinthe.

in the mood for some flower power?

“the dutch” and flowers, tulips in particular, are often mentioned in the same breath. this special connection goes way back to the dutch golden age. during this era many new, exotic flowers and plants were introduced in the netherlands. at the peak of the golden age tulip bulbs even caused the very first speculative bubble, known as tulip mania.

today, the netherlands is often referred to as the “flower shop of the world”.  

flowers are connected to many areas of our everyday life: for instance art, craft, design, fashion, spirituality, emotion, symbolism, traditions, folklore, commerce, science, technology, botany, etc. 

for many centuries artists, artisans, botanists, gardeners, flower growers and trades men are inspired by all kinds of flowers and plants. this we have taken as the perspective for our eat’inspiration ‘flower power’.

so we would like to invite you to join us for a journey in which we explore this special relationship between “the dutch” and flowers, from flower growers to artists and designers, in 5 or 7 courses.

jan 18 – march 18, 2018: fake or real? in 5 or 7 dishes

ever nibbled on a masterful forgery? spooned out a bubble? had a “natural” beauty on your plate? grab your chance and join us for this one of a kind eatinspiration ‘fake or real?’ and explore with us the flimsy line between fake and real.

currently two seemingly opposite trends are operating side by side:

  • real: 
    • on the one hand one notices there is a strong urge for a pure, honest, transparent, natural, authentic way of living; in other words a search for a real, a genuine life.
  • fake: 
    • on the other hand the world of fakeness ruling. in our daily lives we stumble over fake facts, fake images, fake identities, fake foods, etc., etc. nowadays we even have awards for the biggest cheaters and fakers. 

after a closer look you will notice that we treasure both authenticity and phoniness at the same time, so  fake + real are in essence two sides of the same coin.

exhibition ‘beyond black’ due to success prolonged

due to success we prolong the exhibition “beyond black” in our art space the storage room for the last time until september 16, 2018

art space the storage room is a project by marjolein wintjes of studio de culinaire werkplaats. here you can experience food like art and with all your senses, it is a place for sensorial and experiential food art + design.

“beyond black”; the exhibition is the first exhibition created by de culinaire werkplaats, and this exhibition is addressing in a very playful way various black matters. so you can experience black with all your senses. the exhibition consists of various sculptures, small installations, and … above all there are several interactive stations revealing all kinds of black stories.
