de culinaire werkplaats presents at the dutch design week 2010:

deli.wear

an titillating installation & tasting of edible ‘fashion fabrics’ made from vegetables, fruits, and herbs.

The food & eating designers Marjolein Wintjes and Eric Meursing of de culinaire werkplaats are specialized in the plate of the future, on which the meat and fish component experience a less prominent position.

With their conceptual and applied food & eating designs the design couple wants to inspire people to shake up their culinary lifestyle.

The installation deli.wear illustrates one of their claims, namely food equals fashion, and can be experienced with all your senses. meer…

look at this tribute to the vitelotte noir.

one of the signatures of de culinaire werkplaats is to approach the plate of the future using the inspirational concept black. it is also the first inspirational theme when de culinaire werkplaats introduced itself to the world.

up till now we have found approximately 62 black vegetal ingredients. but … the truffle potato is one of our favorites. this potato is also  known as vitelotte noir, négresse or truffe de chine. at a small scale this potato is produced in the netherlands.

in october is our inspirational theme ‘honest & fair trade’. we translated various meanings of honesty into the eat’inspiration spoons full of (dis)honesty??? with the taste of palestine.

we present not only the various meanings of honesty and fair trade in edible form. on october 20, 2010 you can also join us for an eat’inspiration and an discussion about the relation honest and fair trade with a very special dinner guest, michiel korthals.

the theme of the kick off of the fairtrade restaurant week in 2009 was fair-trouwen (=  fair trade wedding).  besides a  fair trade wedding dress there was also a fair trade wedding cake. the event was organized by max havelaar and hosted by de brakke grond amsterdam.

the concept and creation of the fair trade wedding cake was by de culinaire werkplaats. the cake exists out of many individual cakes in 5 different taste combinations, and made out of fair trade ingrediënts:

  • date cakes with a wrapper of red cabbage and apple fabric;
  • avocado foam with a wrap of herbs;
  • chocolate cakejes with a wrap of strawberries;
  • orange cakes with a wrap of lemon;
  • and ananas cakes with a wrap of ananas.
