black is one of our signatures. outside our venue we are known as ‘the people of the black food’.

as we are in the process of starting a new venture ‘The Storage Room’, an art gallery where you can experience food like art, we thought it is was an interesting idea to pick up -after more than 7 years- our black theme again.

for the eat’inspiration the new black we created a selection of ‘black matters’. and hereafter you find the most favourite 5 dishes of many others that made it to a plate.

    • black star: our personal tribute to david bowie.
    • the black list: we shared our blacklist with our guests.  in our first exhibition ‘beyond black’ at our new project space we will reveal in a non edible way our blacklist;
    • black tuesday; the wallstreet crash in 1929 inspired us to this creation. a history teacher that dined at our venue durning this eat’inspiration explained that we had the wrong day. it should be ‘black thursday’. however, we learned that this crash was a big process that emcompassed several days. and our black tuesday was about the final ending, and black thursday was all about the beginning of this process.
    • colourful black: with this dish we try to share what we have learned from our first theme ‘black’. black is not 1-dimensional, it is very colourful.
    • black pearls: these are scarce. and we discovered there are many black commodities that are scarce. scarcity & black were the input for our dish.

creating an opening between studio de culinaire werkplaats and the storage room

we are very pleased to share with you the status of our new venture ‘project spacethe storage room‘.

after facing a lot of red tape and the usual setbacks we finally tackled the most important hurdle. at last our contractor realized the opening between our studio/restaurant and our new art gallery. this created some uneforeseen problems ……..
a lot of re-painting has to be done, and several pieces of art have to be created again.

we are looking forward to welcoming you soon to world’s first art gallery where you can experience food like art and with all your senses.

we are in the middle of a next step by opening in april 2016, a new venture: ‘The Storage Room’, a project space for food art. and besides a 5 course eat’inspiration guests can also book a VIP eating experience. 

a new step calls for an one of a kind theme. as being ‘the people of the black food’ we kick-off this period of change with BLACK.

on the menu a regularly changing selection of the collection of 20 dishes we have created for our guests. hereafter the first selection for the 5 course eat’inspiration, the selections for the other weeks we leave for this moment in the dark.

may 11, 2016: wall street journal on one-of-a-kind experiences in amsterdam

we are very pleased to share with you that de culinaire werkplaats is featured as in the travel section of the wall street journal as one of the ‘one-of-a-kind experiences in amsterdam‘ according to rico gagliano (journalist), who visited our venue twice.

Devour art.

Eric Meursing and Marjolein Wintjes describe themselves as food concept designers—in other words, they play with their food in the name of art. They once crafted an edible, life-size pink wedding dress out of paper-like sheets of rhubarb-infused agar. Four nights a week, their industrial kitchen-slash-studio, De Culinaire Werkplaats (near the cultural complex of Westergasfabriek), turns into a restaurant where each dish looks like a miniature art installation. This month, the couple opens a “food-art” gallery next door, with a debut exhibit of objets created with all-black ingredients—like a sculpture of wafers made from blackberries, black currant and black-curry.
