14-15-16 sept 2012: dinner.talks @ smaakexplosies

during the 4th edition of smaakexplosies, a cultural & culinary festival, we worked on project dinner.talks.

usually we chat quite a lot as we dine, we improve the world, we discuss the highlights of the day, share intimacies, and if dinner tastes really delicious we even swap recipes and cooking tips. but … often we are so noisy while we’re eating that the stories of you dinner most of the time are lost … so we thought it’s time to work on some dinner.talks, two interactive installations: black + colourful dinner.talks.

  • ingredients which are black by nature,
  • a table,
  • a hugh white table cloth,
  • a big stack of books,
  • a collection of thick black pencils,
  • a great location,
  • and a lot of time.

the various stories told by the ingredients were written down on the infinite tablecloth, even festival visitors joined us spontaneously in writing down stories about ingredients. and … sometimes the books revealed some dinner.talks. we even learned about a black ingredient we overlooked in the last 4 years.

  • an anonymous survey,
  • coloured paper + scissors,
  • and create a visualization of the dinner.talks of the festival visitors

we asked at random visitors whether they wanted to answer 4 questions about the fruits and vegetables that they had eaten or drunk the day before. 109 persons were more than happy to reveal their eating habits. the anonymous answers were taped to the walls, and most visitors enjoyed reading the answers. on the last day of the festival the dinner.talks of 109 visitors of smaakexplosies were translated into colours.

in the last week of september 2012, we will publish the results of the survey  in figures.
