“the dutch” and flowers, tulips in particular, are often mentioned in the same breath. this special connection goes way back to the dutch golden age. during this era many new, exotic flowers and plants were introduced in the netherlands. at the peak of the golden age tulip bulbs even caused the very first speculative bubble, known as tulip mania.
today, the netherlands is often referred to as the “flower shop of the world”.
flowers are connected to many areas of our everyday life: for instance art, craft, design, fashion, spirituality, emotion, symbolism, traditions, folklore, commerce, science, technology, botany, etc.
for many centuries artists, artisans, botanists, gardeners, flower growers and trades men are inspired by all kinds of flowers and plants. this we have taken as the perspective for our eat’inspiration ‘flower power’.

portfolio: in search of master talents
eat’inspiration dutch masters III (june-sept 2017).
- part of our project ‘dutch icons revisited’ in which we explore using regularly changing themes: what makes the dutch dna.

- most people link the concept of dutch masters to our dutch golden age painters. however, we believe that we have far more master talents in the netherlands than painters only and in different periods. so we stretched the concept.
- for this new series of dutch masters we created 7 dishes inspired by 7 different master talents. for instance: geert jan jansen (art forger + painter), iris van herpen (fashion artist/designer), etc.
- in the image. a classic dutch pudding (vegan version) flambé. this dish is inspired by and a tribute to the project ‘where there is smoke’ by maarten baas.
sonos x quentin deronzier vernissage
mid october 2017 we were commissioned for a real fun food art project during amsterdam dance event (ade).
gabriel ercicia (creative agency gowtu) invited us to create food inspired by the works and projects of quentin deronzier for the visitors of the vernissage.
quentin deronzier is a french visual artist and creative director, best known for his surrealist and colorful album artworks and music videos. he blends conceptual messages with vibrant colors and iridescent textures.
the sonos x quentin deronzier vernissage was held at the pop up sonos house singel 80. the exhibition was part of the ade 2017 programme.
100% vegan for press launch + opening LUSH flagship store amsterdam

- in march 2017 we were invited by LUSH fresh handmade cosmetics to create the catering of the press launch (march 16th) and the opening (march 17th) of their flagship store at kalverstraat amsterdam.

‘the dutch’ and water are closely linked. for ‘the dutch’ water has even become part of their cultural identity.
to give a small impression:
water management runs in the genes of ‘the dutch’. draining their country and keeping their feet dry is a process the dutch started centuries ago and continue to do to this day.
in winter time -for instance- the dutch conquer the frozen water with their ice skates.
and … during the dutch golden age commerce was thriving because rivers and seas offered the opportunity to travel to all parts of the world, which influenced the dutch cuisine.

for the kick off and the introduction of the food plat(e)form @ the gerrit rietveld academie marjolein was invited to share some food concepts and food art projects of de culinaire werkplaats to illustrate some aspects of the field of food art + design.
as food addresses all the senses eric made for the audience a bouquet of flowers out of strawberry paper. this way marjolein’s lecture did not limit itself to food for thought only.
