the challenge. we were invited to participate in a food art shoot, food & jewellery, for the 2nd edition of PUPMAG. #2, a cultural conceptual magazine.
the new luxuries.in our daily work as food conceptualists we focus on vegetables, fruits and specialty grains. every day we enjoy the beauty of these earthy gems. for us vegetables, fruits and grains are the jewellery, the new luxuries on the dinnerplate of the future. from this perspective it is rather logical to combine food & jewellery in a food art shoot.
the food art shoot. on may 16th, thamar lugthart (PUPMAG.) teamed us up with lonneke van der palen(photography), dineke van den heuvel (styling), frances krol (make up), frédérique olthuis (nails) and leonie op het eijnde (hand model).
PUPMAG. #2 is launched on june 19th, and in stores since july 20th, 2014. PUPMAG. issues 2 editions per year.

- february 13, 2014, the 2nd edition of ninety minutes of frame took place at pakhuis de zwijger, amsterdam.
- the theme of this 2nd edition is all the senses.
- 90 minutes of frame is ‘n live event and initiative by frame publishers.

- keynote speaker sissel tolaas, (scent specialist), florian richter (soundscape designer). claim to fame by jorge mañes rubio, and we presented a selection of our portfolio during the final item of this evening: the making of, and we had a small tasting for the audience.
- last but not least: moderator jeroen junte, design & architecture critic.
live in de stad, at5
feb 7, 2014 de culinaire werkplaats was the venue for the live broadcast of ‘in de stad’ (in the city) by at5, local amsterdam tv.
marjan ippel, food trend watcher, presented her latest book: food lingo bijbel (food lingo bible), and eric and marjolein of de culinaire werkplaats talk about the dinner plate of the future, black food and the eat’inspiration sign of the times.
the interviews are in the dutch language.

interview with the dinner party download about “oliebollen”
on october 27th, 2013, rico gagliono, host of the american public radio show “the dinner party download” visited the culinaire werkplaats.
rico had an interview with eric about “oliebollen” (dutch doughnuts). he had spotted that the dish too late? of our eat’inspiration ‘just in time‘ was about oliebollen and champagne. a dish which is a twistful and spicy reference to the dutch new year’s eve tradition.
the dish questioned whether it is or isn’t too late for good intentions, as many people think it is 5 minutes to 12 for our planet.

esse organic skincare
october 17, 2013, we have hosted the press presentation of esse organic skincare. for the journalists and bloggers we have created 3 dishes in which the ingredients shine that are part of the various skincare products.
esse works exclusively with pure ingredients without any chemical and colour additives. all products of esse are also organic, fair trade and whenever possible made from local sources. esse is the brainchild of trevor steyn. at this launch he explained the philosophy and the products of esse to the audience.
we enjoyed the co production with willa stoutenbeek van wgreen (pr), and alexander dikkes (importer en distributor van o.a. esse organic skincare).

“i consider myself to be a storyteller and food is my material. i like to provoke questions. if you want to find solutions, then you first have to find the right questions. otherwise, you get nowhere. that’s what we are doing. it’s always about questions. the answers are of less importance to us.” states marjolein in a video interview
with a group of very enthusiastic students of the simon fraser university (sfu) in vancouver, canada. they were on a field trip in the netherlands researching dutch designers for their program dutchDesign 2013.
dutchDesign is an undergraduate field school and research program offered by the school of interactive arts + technology (siat) at sfu under the directorship of russell taylor, senior lecturer in design at siat.
dutchDesign is part of a larger research project that has been studying the same phenomena in Italy with the italiaDesign field school program since 2004. The most significant contribution to the field are the interviews conducted in the Netherlands with leading designers, thinkers, architects and design manufacturers. each year, the new team builds on the previous year’s research.
